Default Parting from A6: replace it with a .....?

The following is not worth more than my 2 cents, just explaining why I am leaving the A6 world. Trolls, quit reading, you will be disappointed since I have no complaint on the quality of the car, nor puzzling questions like "why is the A6 heavier than the A2, it shouldn't ?".

I think my 2.8 is underpowered and I compensated this freudian frustation by adding what I thought was necessary: Xenon, color Nav+, Tiptronic steering wheel. But the lack of power is surprisingly still here.

After three years of planning the purchase of a 2.7T, I finally took the plunge. Well, almost... I ruled the A6 out because the newer model is very likely to be introduced in 6 months (Geneva in March) and delivered summer 2004 (here in Europe). My one-year-old 2.7T would then *look* like an older model. Some will probably flame me with that, arguing that the newer A6 is ugly, that I should not base it all on the looks. However, I remember how I looked down at the old A4 when the new one came out. It suddenly seemed to have aged. Yes, I was in love with Chris Evert Loyd until A.Kournikova came. Same thing with a car :-)

Anyway, not an A6. Why not an S4 Tip, then ? Yes, that's the car. But it is not on the market yet, do I want to wait another 3 month ? Yes, I could do that.

I left the Audi dealer patiently waiting for a Tiptronic S4. Then I test drove a....hmmm.... I am embarassed to say it...I drove a....you know, the smaller Audi, the...hmmm <cough TT>. Good, I said it. To my biggest surprise, I felt happy in this midget-sized two-seater TT, quite the opposite to my beloved A6. See ? I am about to dump it but I feel bad, I now call it "beloved".

So, a TT V6 it will be. The 3.2 engine is smooth, I must admit the DSG gearbox alone convinced me. My wife keeps the family car and daddy buys himself a selfish "poser" car. Hold on, I will not be very welcome on the TT forum if I call them posers, will I ?

I will miss the A6 forum, its lifetime members, its polite soft language code (most times). There could even be another OrangeMarlin on the TT forum ,who knows ?
Having said that, Stoney, it would be soooo perfect if you got yourself a TT and gathered a FAQ over there. Please ? (no rush, I can wait a week or two).

Thanks to all of you for three years of feeding me with A6 knowledge. I am now going to try and add a Nav+ on the TT...

Default Do it man, Although we all give the TT guys a hard time, they're TThuper cars! Errr...

I mean super!

But seriously, they're quick little roadholders, and I can imagine they would be awesome with that 3.2

Friends of ours (brothers) both had TTs and they were both sweet! I'd definantly take one!

Default I have said many times here in the past, the TT is a BLAST to drive

Enjoy and be sure to give us a write-up; especially concerning the DSG.

Default The exodus continues; last one, turn the the lights off on the way out...

Eerie around here lately; get the feeling you're on a sinking ship? This board is in "transition" and the C6 is still relatively far off. You'll still be here, right, radar?

The future is now ;-)

Default I have both...

purchased within weeks of one another. I've driven the TT 60,000 plus miles. The A6, 15,000 miles. The TT is VASTLY more engaging to drive. That is all.

When it gets down to just two or three of us, we'll convert to an IM format.
