Reset rear caliper piston?
First time for rear pads on the 2.7t. My usual giant C clamp won't push the calipers back in. I think I'm hitting the parking brake mechanism. What's the trick?
Haynes is silent on this, other than to use the special tool. What does that have that my trusty clamp doesn't?

Benefit of the special tool....
The special tool has an end that will screw in the caliper piston, and also has a lip that puts pressure while screwing. It takes a HUGE amount of pressure with one of those awful cube extensions otherwise. Where are you?

Haynes and Chiltons books are frequently incomplete and/or inaccurate. Considering what you are saving by doing the job yourself, pay the $20 or whatever and get a 3-day online subscription. It's really worth it.

go to autozone or pepboyz and rent the tool
They take a deposit on your cc equal to the cost of the tool and then credit your cc when you return it.
Or buy one from Harbor Freight (CCS..cheap chinese s&*t) but be prepared to kluge the little pin that may shear if you turn too hard. I used a drill bit when the pin sheared but I had to keep sliding the drill bit every 180 degrees. The roll pin is CCS...I'll get a good US one one of these days...probably the next time I have to change rear pads. LOL.

Now I don't feel so bad--must've ...
... lucked out on the first one--I think the piston rotated with the clamp. Didn't on the second. I found it by taking off the parking brake cable and pulling the lever, which extended the piston.
I've made a tool; if that doesn't work I'll try the parts place. I always thought those tools just pushed!
