RS6 idle problems please help
I have a 2004 RS6. I have been to the dealership several times to try and resolve this and had no luck. There are three main symptoms I am experiencing and no DTC come up
When the car is warm, in “P” if I touch the accelerator the car lifts it revs from 800rpm to whatever and then slowly comes down and idles high sometimes up to 1900rpm. When I put the car into "D" and then back to “P” it goes back to 800rpm.
When driving, if I take my foot of the accelerator it does not seem to decelerate properly or register that I have completely remove my foot of the accelerator. It seems to maintain a constant speed and then i have to apply breaks
In “P” if I try and maintain say 2000rpm the car will lift its rev high and then suddenly drop down to 2000rpm and then hunt, without me moving the accelerator pedal
I have replace the airflow meter, check for leaks on the crank case breathing system and the inlet system and found nothing.
It seem like the car is struggling to switch between acceleration, deceleration and idle.

I think the car is toast. I will give $25 for it. LOL!
I will go with the suggestion about the throttle body being dirty. Also check for vacuum leaks I think. My VR6 did some strange idling things when it was leaking vacuum.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for all you help. This problem is really frustrating me. I also noticed that when I rev the engine up slowly, around 1200rpm I heard a slight rattle coming from the engine, almost like a vacuum valve closing, but loose. I would then remove my foot of the pedal. The engine will then stay at high idle for awhile and the suddenly, I will hear the sound again and then the engine goes back to normal idle. The dealership said it is the variable valve gear and it is suppose to make that sound. Not sure if that is true.... The other question I also want to ask, are you able to maintain a steady rpm above idle with the accelerator pedal. the dealership said that like the R8 the car will on a set pedal position keep revving up. that does not make sense to me. As in my first message my car will lift it revs fairly quickly up to say 3500rpm and the drop suddenly to 2000rpm and then hunt

Looks like we solved it. It was two issue. The first was the good old "O" rings that seal the Air flow meter, it seems that the "O" ring was not seated properly and so it allow an air leak after the meter intermittently. The second problem was the secondary air injection system, one of the solenoids was intermittently failing and affecting the boost pressure control system. Audi replace both parts and the car is fly again.
Thanks for all the help
