Smell of something burning when secondary air injection pump is on
Now that it is very cold here, the secondary injection pump is activating every time I stop the car (engine running) after driving for a while, like in a traffic light. However, besides the normal noise of the pump for a few seconds, I am getting in the cabin the smell of something burning, like rubber, that goes away once the pump stops. I searched the archives and although I found a lot of information about the secondary injection system, I didn't find anyone complaining about such smell. This has been happening for quite a while, but today I also got the check the engine light. I am sure it will tell me that there is something wrong with the secondary air. Question is: do I have a bad pump, or the smell could be from a disconnected hose? By the way, the car is a 98.5 A6 30V Quattro.
