Default so i got stuck in the snow .... quattro sucks really unhappy :(

so i was playing around on icy road (no cars around). so long story short, my front wheels were in air not touching the ground, rear ones were still firmly on the ground
i tried every trick i read on forum, but nothing helped, all power was going to front drivers wheel. Only one wheel was spinning, so were was the glorious quattro ? if it only send some power to the rear i could easy drove out of there
so in my opinion quattro sucks

probably a function of your ride height and trying to get over some deep stuff?

Default Your opinion is wrong. The car has a TORSEN center differential. We've been over this....

if there is one wheel that has NO resistance, that's where the power will go. It's the way differentials work, even the vaunted Torsen.

The only way to fool a TORSEN is to apply a load, such as using the brakes. That's what HUMMER driver's do, and it works with Audis as well. Give it enough brake that it has a load, and the diff will flow the torque all around.

Default why would the power go to the wheel that has no resistance? that doesnt make cense to me

why not to send power to the wheel that is on the ground and has resistance?

Default interesting...

I haven't heard of this brake trick before but that might be hard with my MT. I got stuck in the snow this weekend too. my one caveat about my Kris Hansen Custom suspension!

Default Because that's not how TORSEN differentials work. In order to do what you suggest..

the differential would need some sort of lockup clutches if one side has x amount of extra slip...

OR, you can just not go off roading in a road car. =)

Default Yeah, that's why I decided I couldn't keep that suspension.. WAY too low..

I however, got stuck 0 times. And I was going through some very deep snow.

I have gotten stuck before, but only because no matter how many tires are being driven, when 0 are touching the ground because the car is parked on a snow bank, you won't go far.
