Squeeks

Thanks to those who suggested checking the rear seat latches for the squeeking noises that were driving me crazy. All I had to do was put a small amount of WD40 on both the latch and post, and the noises have all but disappeared.

WD-40 works for a while...

...lithium grease (I have a spray can) lasts a little longer. I've come to view this as a maintenance issue rather than a true fix. You just gotta keep at it. HPH

Yup. And spray white lithium will not run as easily as WD-40

Lower seat pivot points (where it folds down) can be troublesome too.

Heavy bicycle chain oil (mountain bike kind for wet environments) works well...

Remarkable how much more satisfying a squeak-free car is!

You know, since someone dissed WD-40

I read the labelling the other day, and it really doesn't say hardly anything about its lubricating qualities. Says something vague like "stops squeaks." Apparently because it's petro-based and is really a grease cutter and rust inhibitor.

You're right about the garden tools, that's what I was using it for at the time!

Here's an old-fashioned lube suggestion - beeswax. I'm trying it out on some squeaking on my GTI, apparently it's also used to lube wooden drawers and in ammo loading.
