Default Sun Visor part missing

Guys, both my passenger and driver side sun visors are not tight when I put them up. (they look like this)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/00-05-01-02-...be3fe7&vxp=mtr

Are they missing a piece?

It looks like there is some sort of collar, as shown below, that I am missing. Is it an orderable part?

Yes it is a little plastic sleeve which can crack and fall apart (never happened to any of my Audis though).

I don't think you can order just that part by itself, but why not call your Audi dealer to inquire?

Best bet - visit a local junk yard.

PS. I will check if it's a whole cylinder (meaning can't install it without sliding it onto the axis) or if it has a slit in it.

Default Thanks

I have read some guys have cut up a piece of pen, slit it open, and put it on as a fix. I am considering this option as they definitely aren't tight.

I've just learned to live with it.
If you do the pen/bic barrel repair, remember to cover the barrel with a piece of tinfoil and protect the rest of the sunvisor from the heat gun.....the idea is to heat the barrel piece up hot enough to weld its slit shut and so you can mold the plastic through the tinfoil.

Default Pen barrel but not the melting

SloopJohn,
Just an fyi, I used cut the barrel of a cheap black pen with my hacksaw and then slit it. I then used a pair of needle nose pliers so split it enough to pop it on. all said, I was able to do both in 5 minutes and it is pretty decent, actually much better than without, and makes a satisfying click when it seats.

I machined a Delrin replacement with a slit in it.

Not that most people have machining at their disposal, but this solution worked well for me. Certainly better than a used piece which would likely deteriorate, or paying the dealership for one (if they would sell just this part).

Default That looks really nice!

I couldn't convince you to shoot me a pair, for a reasonable fee of course, could I?

Let me see if I can queue up a few more on the CNC and I'll get back to you. These things never end up just being a single pair!
