Default Tiptronic

I am thinking of making my 2000 A6 2.7T tip into a real sleeper. I never hear of many people putting a lot of power through or modifying the ZF 5HP19FLA Tiptronic. I wanted a little over 400 HP. I found a shop called IPT Transmissions in New Jersey that sells complete built units. Anyone heard of them? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

hmm that's sounds interesting... I have heard that the max we an put on our tip trannies are 350 and I am pretty close to that.... never heard of the place you mentioned but I would like to hear more... how much would that cost and what would be the max hp that it could take?

honestly.... i have a 04 2,7t tip and I sorta regret not getting the standard, but I would probably be more broke if I would have gotten it lol so many more mods to do

Their built Tip is listed at $4650. I don't know if that's a basic build or their only level of modification. I haven't asked how much power they can handle yet, but they specialize in boxes for drag racing... should be pretty sturdy. I wish I could find a place where a lot of people have used their trannys, but they're the only shop that I have found so far that offers a complete trans build. Go to www.ipttrans.com and snoop around. Seems like most of their business is with Japanese product, but they have products for many makes. Has your car given you any trouble with the power you have? I wanted to go for the GIAC chip first(there's a dealer in town) before I built a drivetrain that could reliably handle the power. My car has 147,000 miles on it. It shifts great and the GIAC can reprogram the trans as well for better, firmer shifts, which can reduce the wear on the clutch packs. I was going to have them tune it for around 300 HP.

By the way, where did you get your tail lights?

Thanx

I'm running stage3 through my 2.7T tip, with a VAST stage3 TCM.
Solid shifts, lightning quick. Nothing to indicate tranny is on it's way out. Increased line pressure and reduced time between shifts means it's much lighter on the clutchpacks. I wouldn't be surprised if it were wearing out the TC a bit faster through...

If it does go, I'm doing a 6spd swap for sure. There are a few transmissions available from wreckers and ebay for ~$1000 +ship, or a rebuilt trans for ~$2k.

I'm even tempted to do it before the trans shows any sign of wear, as it's a SUPER low km trans (30k mi), worth a bit of money, especially since it comes with a Stage3 TCM.

Unless you're physically incapable of operating a clutch, the benefits to the 6spd far outweight the convenience of a tip, performance wise. For the money of a 'built' tip, you can have a low milage 6spd + RS4 clutch.
