SPC Arms
Has anyone used these? And if so, is it possible to adjust them on the car or do you have to take them out of the upright to properly adjust? there is almost no space in the wheel well ...
SPC 81350 Audi B5, B6, B7, C5, and VW B5 Adjustable Front Control Arms!
*** GROUP BUY PRICING IS IN EFFECT --- SET OF 4 --- LIMITED AVAILABILITY ***
As many of you have found out, when lowering your suspension, camber and toe become misaligned which leads to expensive tire wear and poor handling. Since the OEM has made no provisions for lowering the vehicle, there is no adjustment that can be made to bring the wheels back into alignment on a lowered vehicle.
SPC has released this Set of 4 adjustable front upper control arms which will allow +/- 1.5 degrees Camber and/or Caster change for these vehicles. These arms directly replace factory fixed-length arms, allowing easy adjustments after installation. Engineered for both street and track use, forged 6061-T6 aluminum ends with large 18mm threaded adjuster links assure this is the strongest kit available. Maintenance free ball joints and bushings provide factory ride, handling, and NVH performance.

These come as a SET OF 4 and fit the following models :

VW Passat - 1998-2005
This product is SPC 81350 and replaces OEM Part Numbers 8E0-407-505C, 8E0-407-505A, 8E0-407-506C, 8E0-407-506A, 8E0-407-509C, 8E0-407-509A, 8E0-407-510A (and possibly others). (8E0407505C, 8E0407505A, 8E0407506C, 8E0407506A, 8E0407509C, 8E0407509A, 8E0407510A)

I would check this out first...
SPC Control Arms (Adjustable) Failure Video
Not saying this happens to all of them, but they didn't seem to last too long for this guy. It sounds like he was in a place with pretty harsh winters, but still, that's a lot of money to spend for them to fail so quickly. I believe Stern makes a set of adjustables and so does 034 motorsports.
Hope that helps. I would say that I cannot speak to their quality myself as I do not own any of them.

looks like his upright bore is completely worn out ! thats crazy. wonder how the heck he managed that. i wonder if he didnt tighten down the pinch bolt or something. I was just looking at my set and those pins on the SPC arms are hardened steel and the upright is aluminum so definitely his upright is wobbled out...
i did call gruven yesterday and these are adjustable on the car if you need to but he said its easiest to install them by taking the strut off the car completely like in the SPC video. leave them loose then do the alignment and tweak them during the alignment, then tighten down. the 034 versions require you to remove them from the upright and length or shroten them and thats a real pain in the ***.

yes but just wondering if that is accesible on the car, ie is there enough room to reach up in there and actually spin that center hex and loosen tighten the corresponding jam nuts?

well its hard to tell. seems like its going to be hard to do this myself, maybe better to let alignment shop do the whole install and adjust all at once anyways.
