White smoke at start + slight coolant loss

trying to figure that out... i just pulled a valve cover to do the gaskets.
the y-pipe and the hockey puck sized valve that connects to the pipe are both wet with oil
ive read that this is normal however that doesnt seem right to me. i am blowing a lot of smoke like spy hunter style... if it were coolant I would be seeing a huge loss in the reservoir. it has to be oil.
how can i test the pcv system?

Best place to start is to pull the spider hose off, carefully, and look for cracks, blockage, etc.
You'll most likely see junk built up in the passages. Clean this really well, or better yet get a new one. They're not super easy to get on and off...so just doing a new one for $150 may be the best answer.
