'05 A6 4.2 transmission shudder...and MMI update!
In October I picked up a sweet deal on a 2005 A6. 4.2 S-line w/ 9000 miles for $49K...
LOVE the car...
Anyway, took the car on a round trip from Austin to Chicago and back. On the last day of the trip the A6 exhibited a shudder when accelerating lightly (think maintaining speed, not speeding up) between 20-40 mph. The shudder was pretty slight and only momentary in nature (second or two).
Took the car in and test drove it with the service tech and he felt it too. Turns out the fix was to change out the AT fluid... all of it. Since they've done that it hasn't had a problem at all. I've never heard of such a problem or fix. Anyone else heard of this?
On a secondary note, I got the MMI update today and LOVE it!!! No more nag screen and pretty snappy responses. The service tech told me another update to the MMI was due out within a month or two but didn't have any details. I'm assuming the Audi regional guy gave her that information although I don't know for sure...
I'm taking my car in tomorrow so I'm going to print your post so they don't look at me like I'm crazy.....agaaaaaain!!
Thanks for your post!
Haven't noticed any differences from the TSB update, good or bad. The totally annoying habit of the A6 nav that "I have arrived at destination" as soon as I make the last turn - even if I still have half a mile to go - still remains. Strangely, my S4 gets it always right. Maybe because the S4 DVD is twice as big as the MMI version from the same year? Oh well, maybe the 2008 software - or 2010

(not sure what that 2nd line means... might be just a work code.
