Default 2005 A6, iPhone/iPod?

Seems somewhat confusing to me, and I'm hoping someone can assist in helping a newbie to figure out the mess:

OK, we have this nice MMI, with CD changer, no NAV (on mine). Bluetooth built in, seems to work OK for calls, but I have a very early MMI version (will be updated pretty soon). It would seem that if Bluetooth is built in, that A2DP should be possible. But it appears that even with an update to the MMI firmware, there's something called 'AMI' (Audi Music Interface?), which needs to be added, and then you could add a separate A2DP Bluetooth thing?

Seems like it should be easier and less expensive(?)

What are others doing to integrate iPod/iPhone with their 'older' C6?

But you will probably need to update the MMI software to at least 4140 for it to work properly. You can get the disks inexpensively and make sure you read https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2607361

I bought an AMI module to replace my CD changer a few weeks ago from eBay. I haven't had time to install it yet, but according to instructions it should be a direct swap with full iPod functionality. I'll report once I do get it installed. You can search eBay for this item number 230661750113 to see what I got.

You do not need to replace the CD changer. You should be able to install them both if you have the fiber optic connector bits.

If you do swap the CD for the AMI you will need to make sure you are updated to 3360 or later and that needs to be done BEFORE you remove the CD change since it is needed for the upgrade. Also, make sure you keep the changer in the event you need to service the MMI and load new software.

I'm already updated to 41.40 so no problem there. I'm not too good with electrial stuff, I doubt I'm any better with fiber optic so I'm going with the swap rather than try to have both. From what I've read I would need to splice the power in order to get power to both units, I'm not too sure about the fiber optic bits so I don't want to overstep my abilities.

After much procrastination I finally got my iPod adapter installed in the car by the fine folks over at AutoSpeed in Voorhees, NJ. After one week I can say the functionality is great and I won't miss the CD changer even a little bit.

If there are any questions, I'm happy to answer what I can.

Here are some pics of the interface.

So all you needed was the AMI cable? How hard was the install? How did you do it?
Thanks,
Pat
