Default 2005 Audi C6 A6 4.2 Trailer Hitch Wiring

Ive been doing a lot of research about how to wire up the trailer ligths to tow my jet ski. I found a few kits for sale but was wondering which one is the best.

p.s. My car is a 2005 4.2 A6

This one is from ECS and seems to be perfect. Any insight?

This one is more expensive but doesnt seem as high quality or as good of a fit.

The ECS one seems kinda like a lot of work, and you end up with the wrong kind of connector...doesn't your trailer have a flat 4 pin connector on it? And even with that other kit...jsut seems like a ton of extra unneeded stuff. With the US spec C6 having brake and turn signals as the same element on the tails it seems very simple to get a flat 4 connector and just splice into the harness. But then again I would never tow with the A6...just me. Good luck.

I have the V8 it will have no problem towing the 600 lb jetski down the road with ease. Im not worried about that...Thanks for the insight but I think I may go with the ECS one since its OEM and Ill just get the converter for the plug.
Thanks

Good point. The 4.2 should be able to pull the ski easily...plus the quattro should make launch and retreval easy as well. The Light kit should work, I jjust think it's overkill and way too complicated. A simple wire kit from pep boys or autozone or whatever should do just perfectly. The white you ground to the chassis, the brown is yout tail lights, the yellow is your left turn signal/brake light, the green is your right turn signal/brake light. You just splice them into the tail light wireing with these quick splice connectors and you're done for a third of the cost.

Seriously, this is all you need...

I had a 2001 A6 4.2 and pulled my trailer with my Harley on it for the long trips. No problems. That was what the 300 horses under the hood were for... Now I have the 2008 A6 4.2 S-Line and had the hitch put on within first week of having the car. Again, no problems with pulling the bike. It has a max tow capacity of 2000 lbs., but I wouldn't push that... With the 350 horses I now have, I don't know it is back there.

Yea the V8 is nice and torquey and Im not even pulling close to 1000lbs. I already bought the oem kit from ecs so I guess I learned my lesson there lol. It was only like 35 bucks so no biggie.

Does the real exhaust valance need to stay off to have the tow hitch on or does it come out from underneath? I haven't put the hitch on yet so I'm wondering.

I got the Curt hitch for the 2008 A6. It is visible from the rear and does not affect the valance. However, it does reduce the angle of ingress/egress from driveways due to low slung hitch receiver at the rear. It is not a big deal, but is not as clean as this Audifile would prefer.

There is a Eurohitch that is available online for the Audis, but it is pricey. The one for my 2008 A8 is $1035 -- and then it still needs to be installed. The receiver is totally hidden behind the valance, and only visible when the hitch in put in place to pull trailer. No modification to valance required.
