2010 A6 Avant 3.0T Prestige with uneven tire wear
Our 2010 A6 Avant (Prestige with 18" sport package) now has about 21,000 miles. All maintenance has been done to spec.
While checking tire pressures this afternoon I noticed the front tires are wearing on the inside edges much faster than the outside or middle. The problem is worse on the passenger side than the driver's side.
The car tracks true and straight, I've no reason to suspect bum alignment but... is this usual?
I've had other cars (Porsche 911S, Acura NSX) that ate tires (primarily the rears) but this seems odd to me.
Thoughts/ideas/suggestions very welcome.
Unfortunately, this was after my front summer tires got too toast to do anything about it, after <10k on the tires. grrrr...
That said, you may still want to swing by your local dealer, have an SA take a quick look to see if they think it's normal, before you dive in for full alignment.
I would let the dealer check the alignment.
Just as a point of reference, I think we'll end up getting 55k-60k miles out of a set of OE Continentals on my wife's Avant. I would have never expected that. Alignment has been verified/corrected twice at the dealer.
We found out, on the '12s anyway, that our camera can't be aligned with aftermarket wheels, they must be OEM to fit the alignment equipment.

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I've got an appointment to bring it in to the dealer after Christmas (heading back East for 2 weeks so the car's just going to sit). I'll let everyone know what I find.
One question and one comment...
Question: These tires are not uniderectional so I'm assuming there's no good reason why I can't simply "flip" them if my alignment turns out to be good and true. Right?
Comment: Additional cost to align this car because of the rear view camera sounds like an amazing pile of BS to me. I've had several other cars with rear view cameras (some which don't show the lines turning and some that do) and having an alignment done has never cost more. That sounds like a stealership run amuck to me. I guess we'll see.

My S. CA dealer charges $200 for an alignment. My independent shop (that I take my Porsche 911 S to as well) charges under $100.
It looks like I do have slight alignment issue, even though I track as straight as an arrow.
