Default Another Dumb Question - LoJack?

One of the options that was presented to me was activation of LoJack. I bypassed this option, but is LoJack already installed in my car, just not activated?

And if so, does that if my car is ever stolen, cops will choose not to use the LoJack device to track my car just because I did not pay for it?

No. Activation requires the installation of (not cheap)hardware.

When I purchased my A6, I had the low jack system installed. It wasn't cheap but it does lower your insurance premiums. I don't know if this helps at all but I thought I would add my two cents.

Default 2nd owner of LoJack

It only costs $99 (one time fee) to renew a LoJack agreement on a car that has a LoJack system installed on it.

They send out an inspector to check the unit and if it's working OK they issue a printed document and wallet ID card of LoJack protection on the spot.

Just had it done in May.

FYI - my insurance co. didn't offer any discount on it. They claimed I had all the discounts they could apply to my policy.

Hi - Based on your use of the word "activated", it would sound as though the LoJack system was already installed. I know that some dealerships pre-install LoJack on their cars, both in order to reduce their own insurance costs, as well as to facilitate customer desire for the product once the sale is complete.

I bought my 2006 A6 through CarMax. It was not installed, and I opted to purchase it.

My reasons for doing so were: 1) reduced insurance costs (though this was not the primary motivation), 2) the ability to quickly locate/recover my car if ever stolen, 3) my hatred of conventional, noisy and essentially worthless "car alarm" systems.

If you have "gap insurance" that would make you whole in the event of your car being stolen, as well as the wherewithal to repurchase the same car, I'd skip it. Otherwise, LoJack seemed a decent value to me, when compared to the inconvenience and out-of-pocket expenses I'd incur from the theft of my A6.

Good luck!

LO JACK SUCKS YOU WILL NOT GET YOU CAR BACK, BUT get it installed because you will get a discount on your insurance which is why I had it installed. Just get the cheapest program one time fee to install I think it is $600 or $700. There is no fees and if you car is stolen they can trace like a basic homing beacon. As the police car gets closer the signal becomes louder. The problem is most police cars don't have them installed. The town I live in does not have the tracking program to track the car and I know that most MA State Police cars don't have the device to home and track. I mean most don't have it so check with your state/town and ask how many units have it. So LoJack wont help in MA, but at least you get your insurance discount + if you car is stolen who wants it back? I surely don't.

One thing to also point out..the Audi is one of the hardest cars to steal but that's not to say they can't...they can... especially with a tilt flat bed but it's a hassle.
