Default Coding for new battery

Hey all. My local specialist is replacing the battery in my a6 tomorrow but they wont be coding the regulator control module as they don't think it is necessary.

The procedure I am talking about is here http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...ry_Replacement

Does it really need to be done? I cannot see why it's needed as a battery is surely just a battery!

I would do it, as part of the job of the battery management system is to shut down specific stand-by electrical components (such as advanced key) as the battery charge begins to dwindle to ensure that there is enough power to start the car. Without it, there is a possibility of you walking out one day finding out you have a unnecessary dead battery. A battery IS just a battery (well, not necessarily, if you're talking about AGM vs standard lead acid, etc.), but the registration is so the car knows what kind of battery, and its state of charge. My $.02.

Thanks I will do it myself afterwards then.

Do you know if the battery management is able to shut down the cigarete lighter sockets? As I sometimes leave things there on charge!

I believe so. It will shut down anything it needs to except to start the car. I left my ignition on by mistake one night. Found it the next morning with everything off. The car started fine and everything came back on.

What model years does this apply to? I have a 2006 A6 with 3.2. I had been thinking I would just power up the circuit by attaching to the jumper terminals under the hood and replacing the battery. [While being careful to not ground a wrench on the hot cable end.]
