Hey guys...I have the same thing with my 2005 a6. Sounds like a golf ball rolling around.

How did you fish the spring out? Were you able to do without removing the headliner or the glass roof?

Thanks.

click on the link below to see some pics

i took those pics just by tilting the roof up and having the liner closed

so if u had a flexible grabber tool ...

u could easily get it out as long as its not still attached at one end

Great that helped a lot. So on the way home and before stopping to by the grabber tool, I followed your instructions to tilt the roof up and liner closed and hit the brakes a few times hard and presto...the flew out on its own!!! Thank goodness...the sound was driving me NUTS!!!

Appreciate the help!

I used the slam on the brakes method successfully. What I would like is an easy way to fix it, but it looks like this A6 will live without the tilting headliner piece...

Thanks. I tried that and after 2 stops with the roof in the tilt up position and the screen forward the spring flew out. PERFECT. And everything still works find.

Thanks again!

It's only a matter of time. With the increased load on the other springs, the others will eventually fail. I believe usually it won't take very many months.

Mine has been holding up for 2 years with just 2 springs and these spring are both on the same side... Yes On one side of the sunroof... I'm sure they will break eventually... Someone mention Audi should have used aluminum ..well not sure what forum I read it on but someone did just that ...they did a DIY project and metal shopped the clips out of aluminum. I'll try to link to that.

BTW - like your color combo - same exterior color as our A6 but we have the light grey interior.

Glad to hear yours still works!

Thanks, Jeff. I'm pretty sure they only made this color for the 2005 model year.
