The good and the bad about driving an S6.
I am now a celebrity in my small town. Everyone, it seems, knows the car, if not me.
I am on the highway, in the midst's of a three alarm cop warning on my V1, and this guy pulls up beside me in his A4, slows down and gives me a thumbs up.
I'm driving along 170 Street in Edmonton and come to a stop at a red light. A car pulls up beside me and stars taking pictures of my car. I open my window and they do the same and shout Great Car! I thank them and give them a taste of the sound of my 10 cylinders as I pull away from the intersection.
I check into the hotel and the attendant says, welcome Mr. Lomeland. I said how do you remember my name? he says - I remember the car. Thanks a lot I say and smile.
It is great to be just a bit of a celebrity, even if it is the car that gets the honors.
The bad - I am no longer anonymous.

It must be nice to get some special treatment....and yes I'm jealous
I don't quite get the celebrity treatment in New York. I've only gotten one compliment and it's because of the LED lights. I guess when everyone here has a fancy car, you just don't get noticed as much. Saw a couple of S8's just yesterday.......

I've gotten a number of compliments and thumbs up in L.A.
Many of them were admiring the DRLs, and some were overall comments on the car. After 3 months of driving, I've still only seen one other S6 (belonging to the F&I guy at my dealer)and 2 S8s in my travels around SoCal. That surprises me given that L.A. has so many car nuts (with lots o' money), but I love it. I see multiple new M cars and AMGs almost every day, but the S cars have the exclusivity that all those other guys think they are buying with the Ms and AMGs.

Yeah what's up with that
I thought LA is the car capital of the states. I know in NYC there's a lot of money, but I also know in LA there's a lot of money and people willing to spend $ on cars. That is surprising...although most probably wouldn't buy a 4 wheel drive just because you probably don't need it in So Cal vs. North Est USA.

I'm sure that L.A. has its "share" of S6s and S8s flying around the freeways but
L.A. is a huge area so my chances of seeing them on the road are relatively slim given the limited number of these cars that are sold in North America. On the other hand, MB and BMW are HUGE out here and MB in particular seems to be making zillions of AMG cars now (or maybe they are just shipping a large % of them out to the left coast.
That's one reason I've enjoyed my Audis here. Anyone who really knows cars, knows Audis, are quick to compliment me on any of my prior Audis; but overall I love the low key aspect of Audi in L.A. There are tons of A4s here, but very few S cars and A8s.
