Default Hiding V1 under rear headrest.

Hi, I just got C6 avant and want to put the V1 into it. In my previous C4 avant I had it installed under the rear middle headrest (see my old pictured) and covered with a scarf. I want to do the same on the new car but the headrest is slanted. I took the bottom part out and want to put the unit as you can see on the picture. The front will be covered by the layers of leather, foam and plastic frame. I guess this will be Ok for radio waves to penetrate but Lidar detector will be pretty much useless. should I cut hole in the plastic frame to reduce number of layers? Any other suggestions on how to place the unit in the car inconspicuously?

Of course the second question is where to put the remote display? I saw people putting it on the top of steering column? Any pros/cons of this?

Finally I need to place the switch. any suggestions on this?

Under the rear headrest? Wouldn't you want this in the front of the car on the windshield say high up like everyone else has them?

I agree with Brozee, why are you doing that? I'm surprised it would work at all. Unless you live in Virginia I don't see the point at all. If its up high in the windshield, where it should be, its going to be tough to see anyway.

this does not look too steathly. I afraid somebody will notice it and break into the car. here is an example of properly stealthy installation:

Most radar detectors like this have 360* protection. So regardless where they are, it will still offer protection if radar is bounced from the car. Radar bounces off metal and back to the gun, and the speed it returns to the gun is your speed. Laser is a different story. Being experienced with radar, there are certain ways radar works and ways it doesnt. Anyway, if you were to put it in the back window, say covering it with the rear liner, I think you could get away with it. I can do a paint or photoshop of it if you'd like, just an idea.

*edit* wow, i didnt even click the link. That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. That would be PERFECT.

360 degree protection, yes. But you wan't it in the front of the car for best results. I've researched this for quite some time before buying my 9500ix. Most operable position is either mounted to the windshield, or high hiding around the rear view mirror. Having it in the rear provides great rear protection but poor protection against radar not laser; compared to having it in the front. Either way the front is a win win. And for security I ALWAYS pull it off the dash when parking in a non-safe environment, and put it under the armrests.

Most radar is tagged off the front of the vehicle anyway. So yes, you're going to have less support from the front if a LEO does infact radar you. I've worked with both systems before, and radar is a bitch unless you have a good angle, room to work with, and the car is coming at you straight. I'm not arguing with you that the front is the best place for it. I don't doubt that. When I ran radar, you're right.. I tagged people in the front 90% of the time. But the people who had radar detectors still got the message from the rear. I'm just pointing out that if he mounts it in the back he will still get frontal protection, maybe just not 100% efficiency.

first of all: I am installing V1 so contrary to others I am looking for clear view of front and back. second I have Bell 904 for laser protection. (look at my picture poster for the old setup).

I had my V1 under rear headrest for years on C4. it was good with radio. the direct hit by laser penetrated the scarf cover and trigered it as well.

if I put the v1 in front I would have to devise some sort of a cover to conceal it.

I am always muting my V1 as I pass by automatic doors and other bogus indicators. I'd hate to have the V1 in a place I couldnt easily reach. I've had mine mounted by the rear view mirror for years and have even parked in NYC without any issue.

He's got the V1 Remote Display Module mounted on his dash. It provides the same output as the V1 main unit as well as its mute button.
