Default My Magnaflow experience

I thought maybe some of you considering Magnaflows might want to hear my story, so here it is.

I, like many of you, listening to Father Flanagan's Magnaflow resonator videos, and was very impressed. I just got a 2006 4.2, and decided that the stock exhaust could be a bit ballsier, so the magnaflow option seemed like a good one. Plus the price is pretty good. I was thinking I could get it all done for $300-$350.

I got the tips off of eBay (Performance Peddler) and had them sent to my exhaust shop in KC (V&P Performance, two big thumbs up). They got them welded on in no time, and I got there and they lowered the car and fired them up.

Holy crap, that's bad *** right there. Then it was time to leave, and that was when things went down hill for me. Leaving the car in drive, I got a bad drone around 1.5-1.9k under load, and the car sounded like a frickin' helicopter. Way too much noise. If I left it in sport mode, and was feeling aggro, then the RPMs were higher, and it was a lot more enjoyable. But for just driving around, way too loud.

I went back to the exhaust shop, and my guy agreed, the car sounded like an old truck. We then ordered magnaflow mufflers to put in front of the resonators, and I got those put on a few days ago.

NIGHT AND DAY difference. The car in drive, still sounds a little mean, but certainly refined. Leave it in Sport or put your foot into it, and it's nice and aggressive without trying to pick some fights. ;-)

I really like how the car sounds now, and I'd offer to put up some vids, but it is impossible to judge how a car sounds in real life over youtube.

I bought the A6 to be more refined and laid back than my e36 m3, and now the exhaust note is much more fitting of that. Still sporty, for sure, but not over the top. If I wanted a loud and fast Audi, I'd get an S4. Nothing against that at all, I certainly wouldn't mind that some days, just not every day.

Hope this helps some of you thinking about magnaflows. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing! This sounds similar to the Fister D's people put on p-cars; loud yet refined!

I know exactly how you feel. I had them put on about 2 days ago.
I liked it at first but sometimes its too much, especially driving in the city.

Oh yeah, do you perhaps still have the part number for the magnaflow mufflers?

Here is the part number #11376

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=8084

I think that link should work. I paid $223 plus tax for two mufflers and install.

12 inch long Magnaflow Resonated tips, part # 35174. At least that's what Father Flanagan used, and I'm pretty sure that's what I used as well.
