No sound from MMI

No sound from MMI
Last night after starting my car I tried to turn up the volume without the volume changing. It was in FM radio mode at the time. I switched to CD and got no sound at all. The speaker icon at the bottom of the MMI screen has a slash through it, just like it does when the volume is turned all the way down. I tried turning up the volume with no change. I restarted the MMI numerous times and turned off he car/restarted it with no change. This morning when I got into the car there was (and still is) a high pitched whining coming from the front passenger speakers. The best way I can describe it is similar to the sound a CRT tube tv makes but louder. This noise was present with the car completely off and the keys not in the ignition. Any ideas what the hell happened to my MMI???
