Default Problem with navigation unit, Help

2006 Audi A6 I cannot get the navigation to operate. MMI says please check navigation DVD. Tried 2 different DVDs, both were originals. The version on MMI is C6-HU6360 11.9.0 0513. The DVDs I tried were version 2 and version 5 both North America. DVDs both looked clean. Any suggestions? Thanks

Have you try a DVD cleaning disk?

might be the laser on your drive. I recently had this issue on the X3 - battery died and took the laser down with it.

I assume it worked at one point of time, but I just bought the car from a non-Audi dealer who had no clue how to use anything in the car...This is my 4th Audi so I know my way around them, but I never had an issue with the Nav. I will try and DVD cleaning disc. I have a feeling that the battery died at one point, the battery meter was at about half way when I got in the car and it looks like it's an aftermarket battery. IF they did not code the battery, would that make the Nav not work? Is there any way to check to see if it's functioning through VAG-COM? Or does my MMI need an update? Thanks

The battery coding is not needed, however I just replaced my battery and before that my car would not start on two occasions due to dead battery when it got really cold. After each time I had to clear lots of error codes on systems from ABS to steering column position sensor and one thing I noticed was that my back up camera was not working. After the codes were cleared it started to work again. So get the car scanned, clear any codes and see if the Nav comes back online.

Ran a scan, cleared a bunch of codes and reset the MMI. Now the Nav will work for about 20-30 seconds before going to "Check Navigation Disk". When you go to input an address, it gets stuck on waiting for list.... I run another scan later on and post it to see if anyone can help out. Thanks

It's likely a dirty lens as others have said.

On our A6 any time the battery meter was anything other than 100% all kinds of weird things happened.
May need to be replaced- may want to have it tested.
Without coding it will eventually learn the new battery but the indicator may not reflect that yet.

I would try removing power from the Nav DVD unit (only), wait a few minutes, and re-power it.
If that doesn't work ask Misha for his procedure on how to take it apart.

Mine was doing the exact same and I took it apart but didn't have the cajones to break it down to clean it.
However after removing cover, blowing out dust, and putting it back it worked fine.

I had to replace my DVD drive few years ago, out of warranty, I brought a used from ebay(i think it was about $500, seller was in Poland) those units are much cheaper nowadays. plug and play, very easy to swap out the faulty one.

forgot to mention, my original DVD drive had bad 'pick-up mechanism' according to the guy who tried to fix it for me. I was getting the check nav dvd message first, then it died completely after a while.
