Default Question for S6 grill and Audi LED lights

I have a 2005 Audi A6 - 3.2l quattro. I bought a new S6 grill and OE Audi LED lights that go on the bottom.
what does one have to take off to replace the grill. The Audi manual says
that one had to take the bumper off? Also, will the OE Audi lights fit, they are meant for S6. If they fit, will have to figure out how to wire them and possibly will need some resistors, so it does not throw off errors.
I am sure someone here has done these modifications.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Default Yes, you must remove the bumper....

and will have to custom mount the LEDs to the bumper so figure a weekend project. Besides, you will need to do that to attach your S6 grill to the bumper anyway.

The "search forum" function is your friend but I do not recall seeing a DIY with photos and step by step detailed info so you might want to do that for others on this forum. I think most pre 2009 A6 owners have thought about adding the new cool look of LED DRLs to their rides.

From what I know (since I might do this for a friend and have looked into it), you should talk to the Audi dealer parts guy and have them order for you the S6 lower left and right bumper vents for the S6. These are the rectangular black plastic parts that surround the fogs in the A6 and go below the DRLs on the S6. Hopefully they are interchangeable so you can integrate the DRLs and S6 vents into the A6 bumper. Dremel might be needed or you can make your own custom mesh vents if you are good with tools and plastic.

As for the electrical, there will be issues since LEDs are different from the regular fogs and Audi has all sorts of modules and interfaces to handle the voltages, errors and power switching. The easiest way to do this is just to run the DRL power wires right to the fuse box and attach to a switched fuse so they power on when the car runs, bypassing the error codes and added cost for a clean integration. This assumes that the LEDs will work when connected to the 12V battery but I may be wrong on that.

Do the S6 LEDs light with 12V applied? Any instructions with them?

Default Audi DRL lights in A6

there were no instructions for installing the LED light.
I will have to locate what powers up under the hood with the ignition, so
that I can hook up the LEDs.
I will have to see if these fit my A6, and probably will have to get the
S6 grill or mount it below the fog light of the A6 grill.
Not sure but will figure it out over the weekend.
Thanks

Keep us in the loop. I want to do this, too, and if you can do a DYI, it would be great.

bballfreak I swapped out my grille for the S6 one as well.
Big difference in the front end appearence well worth it.

I too am also interested in the S6 LED's.
My question is what bumper do you have on the car now? Sline or Plain stock one (Chrome strips above fogs)
Im not sure where you live but if your in the NYC tri state area I would be willing to give you a hand in this retrofit and creatring a DYI on this.
I have the plain boring non-sline bumper and was going to hack it up for the OEM LED's. I am thinking of swapping it out for S-line before the install.
I am sick of seeing the ugly aftermarket add-ons some members install. (IMO)

Wish I was close to NYC, but am in South Texas- san antonio.
Mine is the stock grill that came with the A6.
I have to install the grill and the lights. The Audi LEDs do look
quite cool, have not powered them yet, but I think there is nothing
in the aftermarket that looks close to these lights.
I just have to figure out the installation and also how to wire them that they come on with the ignition on. Just have to find a circuit that is hot with the ignition on only.

I think he does not have that car anymore but I could have sworn he had many helpfull post about it. maybe not a full step by step with pics but alot of help i think i remeber him saying that the bumper DID have to be removed to gain access to something.. do a search and use LED or DRL or maybe his name
