Replace navigation unit
Entire MMI system went down about a week ago. Did some research on this site and found out how to diagnose. Bought fiber optic loop cable and plugged it into each item in the system in the trunk. The second item that I tried after the bose amp was the navigation unit and BAM, that was it. Once I bypassed that (left the loop plugged into the wire for the Navigation), the system booted up again. I am not back in business, other than the navigation not working (gives a message on the screen saying that navigation is not installed). I don't care because I never use it because I use Waze or Google Maps on my phone instead. However, I'm weird in the sense that I hate for something on my car to not work....and if I sell it one day I want that to work.
So, my question is......what would be your recommendation on replacing it? If I go to the junkyard or ebay and get one from a similar model/year car (mine is an 06 A6), chances are it will die soon as well, right? Or is the navigation dying an uncommon thing and the amps or Bluetooth module die more frequently. What other options would I have? Of course buying new is the obvious answer but I'm not doing that.
Thanks.
