window washer fluid warning light

I purchased an 06 A6 4.2 and the window washer fluid light has been on since I bought the car. The fluid is topped up, but the warning light is still on. Has anyone ran into this issue? What should I take a look at? Does anyone have any diy tutorials or previous forums with the answers?

The reservoir is in the front of the left fender well. Removing the front half of the fender liner will give you access. The wires for the sensor hang below and can get corroded or clipped.

I forgot to mention that it is not always on, but it is most of the time. It occasionally doesn't come up when I start the car, but next start up it would come up for sure.
