2012 A7 Oil Consumption Question

2012 A7 Oil Consumption Question
I am new to the Audi brand. I own a 2012 A7. It is 5 months old and has 3,400 miles. I love the car. Today I received a message stating that the oil level was low - "at minimum". I have not seen any posts about oil consumption during the break-in period. I added Castrol 5W40 oil as instructed in the manual. The dealership agreed, they told me it is not time for an oil change until 5000.
I have never had to add oil to any car that I have owned, and this seems strange to me; however, I have never owned an Audi before.
My question: Has anyone else had to add oil early on? Do you think this is a sign of a bigger problem?
Just curious.

I'm at 2500 miles and zero consumption thus far. Gauge still reads full. I drive pretty conservatively though. My wife's A5 (2.0T) has required a qt to be added at the 20,000 mile mark. The manual states this is normal.
