A6 Owner Thinking of A7
I looked at and almost got the A7 3 years ago, but decided it wasn't quite as practical as the A6, and not worth the price premium.
The A7 is without question one of the best looking sedans on the planet. The questions for those of you who have now had a chance to really live with the car - -
Would you buy one again?
Do you feel there is enough room in the car? I am 5' 10", so not an issue for me, but what about friends who are 6' or taller?
Is the rear seat useable for longer rides?
How does the size/usability of the hatch compare to a trunk?
How is the ride quality with the larger wheels/tires? If I am going to get an A7, I would definitely want the look of larger wheels. My A6 has 19" wheels and I am very pleased with the ride quality, especially after the winter we had on the east coast.
Anything else to consider?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice!

Without a question. My 2012 A7 is now 3 years old, I am trading it up to the Diesel version.

Nobody complained yet, and I (6' on the dot) don't have a problem either.

Actually there is quite a bit of space in the back. We rarely have adults back there but the grandchildren seem to find plenty of room to misbehave.

It is wonderful. If you fold the rear seats down and take the two cover panels out, it is amazing what you can load in there. And you can fit things in (and still close the hatch) that would never fit in a trunk. We just took a disassembled baby crib to the cottage, including the mattress, two large coolers, bags of clothing and groceries and we still had lots of room left.

I have the factory standard 19" wheels with GoodYear Eagle LS-2 255/40R19 100H XL tires, use them all year around (in Toronto where we have lots of snow) and I am perfectly satisfied.

The night vision camera system is a total waste of time and money while the HUD is a great feature.
Living outside Chicago (pothole city) I am somewhat hesitant to step up to 20" wheels, or doing a summer/winter setup, the 19" (with sport suspension) ride very firm and handling is very good.
I am probably in the minority here when I say I love the A7 and it's MPG efficiency for such a large coupe. 33mpg highway last week from Cinci to Chicago average 78 mph...
The intrinsic satisfaction and good resale value to recoup much of the price premium should seal the deal. It is indeed a special car to own.

Very definitely. Although I'm thinking maybe a S7 next time.

Plenty of room in the front for sure. Headroom in the back seat is a little tight, but the legroom back there is great. For reference, I'm 5'7".

Definitely. Only complaints I've gotten about it are the headroom issue and the fact that passengers back there sit pretty low (I don't think of that as a problem).

I had an A6 Avant before the A7 and I think the cargo capacity of the A7 is at least as good, maybe better, than the Avant. However, since the rear hatch tapers toward the rear, the height of the cargo you can carry is limited if it's also long and can't be pushed toward the front. With the seats folded down, I can get two adult sized road bikes laying flat with padding between them, the wheels still on, and the hatch closed.

Mine came with 20" wheels, but not the sport suspension. After driving it for one summer, I bought a set of 19" wheels and am much happier with the ride quality and comfort. This is a daily driver for me, with Chicago potholes to contend with.

Definitely recommend the LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and heated seats and wheel (if you're in a cold climate). Heads up display is helpful, but it was packaged with the night vision feature, which is a total waste in my opinion.
I'd suggest you consider putting summer tires on it and get yourself a set of winter wheels and tires.

As a suggestion you may want to contact your sales advisor and ask if you can take home an A7 for the afternoon / evening. Take the family for a spin to judge the room, check out the hatch, etc. Nothing beats an extended test drive.
Good luck with your decision.

When I was purchasing my A6, I had a really hard time deciding between the two (A6 vs A7), but I just couldn't justify paying $9k + tax more for the A7 (given they are equipped with the same options), so ended up with the A6.
However, every time I see an A7 on the street, it makes me turn my head, while when I see an A6, I can't stop thinking how bland it looks compared to the A7.
So...I may eventually trade in my A6 for an A7, but for now, I'll see how much I can resist the temptation.
