Default A7 purchasing question

Hey yall,

I am days away from putting in an order for a new A7 and I had a question. I test drove an A7 performance at the dealership that was Daytona gray and had those sweet red calipers.

I am looking to order an A7 prestige with that color paint and those same red calipers... I don't have those options on the website. Can go about getting the daytona gray by choosing the Audi exclusive customized paint? Is there a way to ask for the red caliper covers? I asked my local dealer about this. They were thinking it was doable, but they weren't 100% sure.

Finally, I haven't actually seen Oolong gray. How close is it to the Daytona Gray? It would be a difference of $3k...

Thanks!

My A7 is Oolong Gray which is very different. It's more of a brown gray. See my avatar.

Default Having had Three Daytona Grey Audis...

… I for one, am ready for an alternative color in my next car. The Oolong Grey is a showstopper. I agree, there is a hint of brown, but the silvery sense is there too. The flake is just beautiful and thick, so much of the surface heat associated with dark cars will be reflected.

I am glad the "Competition" Package is now available in the A6/A7 chassis, but Audi should have taken a better cue from BMW as their package has more functional upgrades and doesn't require the Prestige Package to get it.

As an additional consideration, the "base" S6 gives you the womp of the twin-turbo V8 and a serious brake/handling/sport exhaust package at about $75K…

Ah, the delight of choices

Eric

You have to see the colors in person - inside and outside. Calipers can be painted any color you want after you get the car.

Don't pay $3K for Daytona Gray, it was a standard color in previous models. If you're going to pay for an exclusive color, pick an exclusive color.

Ahh. I see it well in the picture. On the audi website, the two paints look much more similar to each other.

I guess I could have worse decisions to make than which paint I want to throw on my new A7

That is a very valid point regarding the color. I will see if I can't work more with the dealer to request exactly what I am looking for. Thank you all for the responses.

To answer your question more specifically, the only way to get red calipers on an A7 is with the Competition package. There are some tradeoffs in equipment. You cannot get ventilated seats on a Competition. I have never found a way to build a competition on-line, so there COULD be the option of getting the ventilated seats. But I've checked inventories at all Houston dealers over the past two months and none of them have had them. They get the sport seats with the cool looking diamond stitching (the standards seats in the S6 & 7).

I drove an A6 with the competition package and the ride was more harsh than the non competition package even with the same size 20" wheel/tire package. It had different (Pirelli) tires than what comes on non competition packages. I assume the suspension is stiffer, but the tires could have been the culprit. They also could have been overinflated. When I bought my A7 from the same dealer they had the tires over inflated. Just something to be aware of if you are interested in a competition.

I still don't get why they don't have ventilated seats in the competition package. I got mine in the Prestige trim only because of that one problem (I had ventilated seats in my A6 too and that car spoiled me).

I only got to test drive the competition version of the A7. It seemed to handle well compared to the S5 I drove earlier that day ( I know apples and oranges.

But I really am looking forward to the comfort seats that seems unavailable in the A7 competition set up for some reason. Bummer.
