Default A7 or S7

Hi All, I'm pretty new here and I am trying to decide between the A7 and S7. THE S7 is a clear winner for me but the extra $20,000 and loss of the bench seat is an issue. I occasionally have 3 adults and 2 kids in my car with my 7 year old son and his 8 year old cousin. My wife just got a Q5 so that will be our car for skiing, surfing etc. I will use mine for traveling and loading my road bike in the hatch.

I live in LA and spend most driving time under 50mph but the extra punch and style of the S7 appeal to me. The MPG and range of the TDI interests me also but I don't want to take a hit on performance. I drive a Prius now (don't ask) so any of these cars will seem like a rocket. I don't want to skimp to save $ and regret it.

Thanks in advance.

Depending how you option the car, the spread is really closer to $12k

(S7 includes quite a few "optional" items from the A7)

Although sounds like the loss of the 5th passenger has already made the decision for you??????

Exactly the S7 is only offered in a 2 +2 configuration if you need a 5 seater you need an A7 that if is 2014 is a 5 seater already otherwise you have to find yourself an earlier year with the 5 seat feature installed.
And yes the difference is only 12k if you add the options the standard S7 has.
I am going to sound as an a%#hole but if I love the S7 and I want it badly, I will not buy an A7 just because occasionally my nephew comes to visit, if that is the case we take my wife's SUV.

I agree 100%. I guess "occasionally" when I need a 5th seat we can take the Wife's Q5. I can swing it budget wise to go for the S7 and I guess that is what I should do rather than regretting saving the $12k. I've never spent that much on a car before so I am a little gun shy I guess. Thanks for the answers so far!

Here is what I'm thinking of ordering. Any chance I can get some $ off or is there no room for negotiation on a special order like this? My Wife just leased a Q5 from the same dealer so I am hoping for some sort of break. Is there any benefit ordering at the end of the month on a special order?

2014 Audi S7 Order - $86,900
2014 S7 (4GA53Y) - $80,200
Phantom Black Pearl Effect (L8L8) - $500
Black Valcona Leather interior with diamond stitching
Black Optic Package (PPS) - $1,500
20" 7-twin-spoke bi-color wheels
Exterior mirrors in body color
265/35 summer performance tires
High gloss black package
Driver Assistance package (PCN) - $2,800
Audi adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality
Audi pre sense plus
Audi active lane assist
Corner view (front, rear) camera system
LED Headlights (PX2) - $1,400
Carbon Atlas Inlays (5MK) - $500
Black cloth headliner (6NQ)-$0

One question, what is exactly black optic package? Is it the bi color wheels the exterior mirrors painted in body color and the high gloss package? (And what is high gloss package?)
It is funny that painting the mirrors in body color is now an option that cost money, to make it look like an A7 when the S version have always had the silver side mirrors.
If I were you I will not order the driver assistance package, I do not think is a must, you can still get the side assistant with folding mirrors and side warnings for only 500.
All the rest is a must.
The seats are the regular ones right? The beautiful ones that do not get heated or ventilated, those ones are the best.
I think you can get 1500 Audi loyalty discount for being a previous Audi customer, they say you need to wait 6 months, I think that part is flexible.

What dealer? Assuming you're in Malibu is it Auto Gallery or Rusnak? Just got my A7 from Auto Gallery, and they told me how they rarely deal in S7's

I priced it out at the dealer today (Santa Monica Audi). They can't do any deals on the S7 since it is a special order and limited supply. They did offer me the $1,500 loyalty discount though.

I was about to put the deposit down and then I saw the damn ugly wheels that come with the black optics package. Uggh, they look horrible in the catalog. Now that I think of it, body color mirrors might take away from the S7 look as well.

Now I just have to decide if I want the drivers assistance package or not. Audi side assist and folding mirrors are already included in the base price. I know I don;t need it and probably won't use it but it seems like I should have it for resale value maybe. I'm going to sleep on it and call the dealer in the morning.

Thanks for all the advice and keep it coming!

Go with the audi driver assistance you will love it on a long trip. I have it on my MB it so much better than just cruise control. We order the Garnett Red. as i have looked around not many people have ordered red. We have a Quartz blue MB with a dark blue rag top E550. She stands out in a crowd.
