Default A7 window issue.

The driver's side window on my 2012 A7, 31,000 miles, has just started acting up. Using the one-touch up button, it rises to the top of the track, and then bouces back, returning to the 1/3 up position. I am able to move it up manually in small increments to within 1/2 inch of the closed position, but if I try to fully close it, it'll bounce back from there too. I have cleaned the track and window. I'm guessing it's a sensor problem, the "pinch-protect" feature possibly? Anybody else have issues with this? Ideas?

Yes, 4-year factory warranty in force until Oct. 2015. But dealer is 125 miles, and 2-1/2 hour drive away.

Probably the window switch unit is going bad. Eventually it will stop working all together. Had same symptoms on a D3 A8 I owned. Pretty much plug and play.

I had this same issue on my old Jetta a couple years back. Ended up being the regulator that was replaced and it was fixed, but I had my suspicions as to electrical.

Have you had a dead battery recently? It sounds to me like the window might need to be reset. The 1/2 inch incremental creeping sounds like it's self-protect feature. I don't know what the reset procedure is on an Audi, but on an MB that I had, it involved some intermediate ignition positions and other button presses to get the window in "learn" mode, and then you had to basically set the upper and lower stop by raising and lowering the window.

Sorry I don't have the specifics, but maybe someone else can assist with those.

Best of luck.

Before going to the dealer, try this window reset procedure:

Start with the window fully closed.
Press the switch until the window is fully open and continue pressing it for 5 seconds.
Then pull the switch up until the window is fully closed and continue to hold the switch for 5 seconds.

Thanks to all who responded with suggestions. I had this problem just one day. After that the car sat in the garage for a couple of days undriven. The next time we drove it the window worked perfectly. We have driven it several more times since, and it continues to behave normally. Thinking back on that day, it was neither cold nor warm, and I did not have the car washed recently. I can't think of any reason why it acted up. However, I wondered whether shutting the car down at the end of that drive back from Denver, and then re-starting it a few days later might have "re-set" the system??? Possiby that's all it takes. Snagitseven, I'll file your suggestion for use in the future if it happens again.
