Default A7 windshield - top center feature?

I have to place a military base sticker at the top center of the windshield of my new A7. I see what looks like a triangular "window" near the top center of the windshield. What is this and is there anything I need to worry about covering? The sticker will cover a space about 4 inches wide and 2 inches high. TIA.

There is a camera there which works with your adaptive cruise control and lane assist function. Don't cover it.

If I'm not mistaken the adaptive cruise is handled by the fake fog lights. Behind the mirror is the camera for the lane assist.

OK, so if I don't have the lane assist feature -- I just have the adaptive cruise control -- I don't have to worry about covering that triangular gap I see under the windshield and in front of the mirror?

Best to refer to the manual, but in my reading this weekend of the books this is what I recall. I'd check again, but not currently at home

I also have an A7 with the adaptive cruise but not lane assist and I think chicagoa6 is correct. That triangular area in the rear view mirror housing holds the camera for the lane assist if you've got it. The adaptive cruise works off the sensors in the lower valance that look like fog lights.

The sensor for the rain sensing windshield wipers is there as well as, I believe, sensors for the automatic headlamps.

I would not cover it. Can't you offset the sticker a couple of inches to one side so as not to take any chances with the sensors?

There is no lane assist option in the US. The camera is also linked to the ACC in addition to the radar sensors in the front bumper.

cbb09 is exactly correct. Despite Audi Lane Assist being an option on the A8/A8L for the past few years (since MY 2008) and it's available on the new A6 and A7 in Europe, it is not available in the U.S. on these vehicles for some reason, sadly. It works very well on my 2008 A8L and there have been no malfunctions with it. It's one of those options that many people will say is unnecessary or useless but, after having used it, especially on interstate driving, it's an option you'll want on your next vehicle. It's only downside is that it won't function unless it can "see" road markings. Heavy rain or snow-covered roads will cause it to not function as intended (no alerts).
