Default Acceleration "Lag"?

Hey everyone,

Picked up my Prestige last night and I'm very psyched, pics to come on another post shortly!

Have a quick question: On the ride home from the dealership I definitely noticed a slight lag when punching the gas. I did three test drives and remember quite vividly how there was zero lag or hesitation. I attributed this to the car being supercharged as opposed to turbo charged. Coming from a turbo charged Q5 I was happy with this difference, as the Q5's lag was considerable.

Is it possible that as the cars computer "learns" how I drive the lag will disappear? Has anyone else experienced this? I hate to be calling the dealership already.

Thanks!

With drive-by-wire cars, some degree of "lag" has been considered normal, and it's rarely a turbo/supercharger induced lag. For example, the 2011 528i was criticized for "lag" by at least two long-term tests and it uses a naturally-aspirated engine that is lag-free in many other applications.

Especially in "D" mode, the car will try to smooth out your throttle changes for driving comfort, and for sudden throttle changes it might wait for you to "settle down" before the throttle is applied (to prevent double-downshifts)

If you have ADS, try putting your car into Dynamic... Otherwise, try the S gear position and see if the lag appears there.

And yes, over time the car does learn whether you are an aggressive driver or a conservative one, so the throttle response might be different.

Thanks for the reply.

I did put the car in Dynamic and switched between "D" and "S". In S mode I did notice a slight decrease in lag but it was definitely still there. Hopefully it's a computer learning curve thing.

Thanks again for the input.

If it was me, I would go back to the dealer and ask to do a few more test drives to make sure your A7 does not have a unique lag. My A7 does not and it would drive me crazy if the lag was there. I also always drive in S mode around town but go to D on highways to reduce revs.

I thought that the learning done by the ECU is for shifting points for gear changes and not so much the initial throttle lag....

With the A8, there is definitely ~1/2sec lag between the time I punch the accelerator and the push in the posterior. I think the drive by wire needs to be recalibrated. It makes changing lanes little tricky. I'll try the "Sports" mode to see if that makes it any better.

Mine is set to "Comfort" mode, I only use the D setting, there isn't (and has never been) any noticable lag.

Hmm, thanks for all the feedback. To be clear, the hesitation only happens when I punch the gas fairly hard, like when one first decides to do a quick pass on a two lane road. Definitely like a 1/2 second lag...even in Sport mode in Dynamic.

Appreciate the input so far everyone, thanks.

Ditto.

It seems like when you punch the accelerator, the transmission thinks for a little bit, then it will downshift and only then throttle engaged.

When i first drove the A7 back in April, i didn't notice any acceleration lag at all. But after my first Service, an ecu update was done, and then i started to notice it. It feels as if Audi De-tuned the engine slighty

Trident, are you saying this lags occurs when moving from a standing start or something else?

I've got the 8spd auto in my A4 and the lag is bad 90% of the time. You'd almost think you were riding around with a student driver...it can be that "un-smooth".

There has been much written on this topic. A few dumped their cars and didn't elect to live with it. It's too bad, it kinda spoils an otherwise great car
