Guys driving home tonight and this appeared on my dash twice and then gone?
I was not driving hard and was only driving in a 30 and a 60mph area for about 10-15 mins.

Gearbox overheating: please adapt driving style.
The vehicle has been driven hard, causing the gearbox temperature to rise significantly. You should avoid performance driving until the temperature drops to the normal level and the indicator lamp goes out.

Gear box is due a service. Could it be the filter etc?
Car is a 2012 3.0 tdi S tronic 50,500 miles.

Thoughts?
Car never felt any different....

I would highly recommend you to drop off that A7 ASAP to the dealer to run the diagnosis on the failure before its too late. It can overheat and fail causing more issues with the other engine components if you decide to wait till service. I would not hesitate to immediately call my dealer and have them do this. There have been other complaints of this on the Audi forums with some having failure of it and getting stranded.

Hi, sorry to hear that, you can check my thread posted, the same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago, got the message twice and disappeared, I got the car back 3 days ago with new gearbox installed ! The car had no symptoms whatsoever except for the message on the screen stating grarbox overheating! Please adapt driving style, I advise you tou take the car to your delear ASAP, sometimes a mechatronic unit solves it, but sometimes ( as in my case) a new gearbox was installed
