Default Bird Crap

A bird got me with a direct hit yesterday.

I used some paper towels and clean water to wash it off. However, it left some light swirl marks in my brilliant black paint.

What cleaning products do you guys recommend for bird crap - and other minor touch up jobs?

You can shake up a bottle of sparkling water or hit it with an instant detailer....you just can't grind it into the paint.

NEVER EVER use paper toweling, no matter how wet you get it. There are wood fibers in the towels that can scratch.

Instead use a synthetic chamois, that you can wet, and gently ( I SAID GENTLY!!!) using light strokes, get off the crusty part, then the residue that's left behind, with a clean section THEN, use some detailer like Meguiar's to get to the acid that's left behind.

Bird crap is as corrosive as Coke. You got to get that sh** off as quickly as possible before the paint is etched.

I keep a bottle of Griots Spray On Car wash in my back along with 2 micro-fiber towels for just this issue. Squirt the spray-on and wipe. No problems

Reminds me to have a microfiber cloth in my car.

I read some reviews on Griots and it sounds great.

Does anyone recommend any similar products or quick spray on / wipe off wax?

I would like to order something asap.

Many years ago I parked my BMW 535 at a long term airport parking lot. I was gone for 2 weeks. When I got back I was horrified to find bird crap all over the hood. The paint was so badly etched that it still showed marks after having it professionally detailed by an automotive paint shop.

Bird crap is nasty stuff.

Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer works well. Key is to use a soft fluffy microfiber towel to avoid grinding the bird residue into the paint.

I use Griots Spray-On wax after I wash the car. Love the stuff. However, any spray-on waxes are only good for week to week application. They are not a replacement for a full wax that will protect the car for the long run

I use Optimum Spray Wax (which was recommended by my detailer) and have found it can last at least 3-4 months through several washes before the water stops to bead although I try to do it about once every 8 weeks or so. (Optimum claims up to 5 months). What's great about this stuff is it's easy to apply - after a wash, it only takes me about 30 minutes to do the whole car including the wheels. Highly rated and great stuff.

Another thing I like about this wax is it's totally devoid of any oil based ingredients like naptha or kerosene which is to be avoided on paint protection film like my Xpel Ultimate.
