Default Bluetooth audio - Android

I just replaced my trusty old Blackberry with a Samsung Galaxy S4 Android based phone. After fiddling for a few weeks it now does everything my Blackberry did and a lot more.

It has connected to the Audi Bluetooth system both for phone and audio application.

The device does show up on the MMI Media screen as a source and it plays the music that is stored on my phone. However, I have no control over what it plays from the MMI screen. It also shows (supposed to show?) playing time but the numbers remain at 0 even though the music is playing.

Is this a limitation of the MMI or am I missing something and it is not set up/configured correctly?

I don't know about controlling what song is playing that is stored on the phone. Can you change the song when using Pandora or similar app?

The playing time should definitely work so you may not have the latest version MMI.

The mmi has no way of knowing what app on what phone or BT device is sending data over a2dp. It just receives and plays the stream.

Not true. My iPhone over Bluetooth audio shows song info on the MMI from Pandora.

OK I'll clarify. In order to control playback of the media, the mmi, phone, and app would also need to support avrcp in addition to a2dp streaming. Many BT cars only support calling so it's nice that we can at least stream. It is a cool feature. Maybe the right combination of hardware will do more for us. As you found, your iphone to pass the name for instance over a2dp.

That's all very nice, however it does not answer my (I thought simple) question.

You didn't answer the questions above which will help answer your problem. Are you able to switch songs using an app that streams music? Does it show playing time properly?

Which app do you use to play the songs stored on your phone? Have you tried switching to a different app?

I do not have or use any app that streams music. I copied some MP3 files into a directory of the phone.

If I go to one of those files using the My Files icon and click on it, the music starts playing using Music Player. (No Bluetooth connection).

If I connect to the car with Bluetooth and on the MMI screen select my phone as a source, it starts playing music through the car speakers, shows the title of the song but I can not see the list or select other songs. And the playing time remains at 0:00

When the song finishes, it goes to the next one.

I am new to Android and I have not used the Blackberry to play music in the past.

MMI software update to 0715-2 solved the missing song info through Bluetooth audio for me.

I have never connected the phone to my car if I wasn't streaming so I don't know what the natural behavior is. I don't have access to my car either since it is in the shop.

My final two suggestions are for you to download a streaming app like pandora that is free and see if you have the playing time show up in that and if you can control the next song. Those should work.

Snagit posted what the latest MMI version is so check which version you have, and get it updated if it isn't the latest.
