Broken AC

Yesterday, while I was out in the awesome heat wave we've got going on, the AC started acting funny. I thought it was just taking a bit longer for it to start working but nope!It was blowing out smelly air. I turned off and waited a bit and turned it back on and it started working. Then, halfway into my ride, once again it started blowing out nasty air. Today, it completely stopped working. I'm NOT happy. AC shouldn't be breaking in this car.

Also, I'm hearing a jingling sound near the steering wheel. This is in addition to the break sound I'm hearing and the dashboard sound. ANNOYING.

Ended up being the temperature gauge. They ordered the new part, fixing it tomorrow.

I wonder if this is a common problem. Some times, for short periods, it feels like the ac isn't working. Or maybe I'm just broken.

I had this happen to me one time on a very hot day in my A4 after prolonged under 40 mph driving. I stopped and shut the car off for a couple of minutes, restarted and all was ok again. When asked, my service manager mentioned that under extreme outside temps, if the car is being overloaded, it can go into an energy saving mode, the a/c compressor being the first to get shut down. He said the usual solution was to stop, turn the car off for a few minutes and let the sensors reset which is exactly what happened with me. I do recall finding something in the manual that addressed this. Never happened again.
