Default Exterior Power Foldiing Mirror Gasket

I have a new 2012 quartz gray A7. The rubber gasket on the power folding mirror is tearing and the dealer states that the whole mirror unit needs to be replaced. I would prefer that the dealer just replace the rubber gasket because the entire mirror assembly will have to be painted and I am concerned about paint color match and that the paint job will not last the life of the vehicle. Does anyone know if just the rubber gasket can be replaced rather then replacing the entire exterior power folding mirror unit?

Thank you - ahg54

The sign of the times.

The gasket could be replaced on its own, but it is not available by itself, it is part of the mirror assembly. The dealer would have to disassemble both the old and new units, take the gasket from the new unit, put it in the old mirror unit and re-assemble it. They would also need to re-assemble the new unit for return to Audi. You would have to have a friendly chat with the service manager of your dealership to convince him that the cost of the extra disassembly and assembly work would be offset by the savings of not painting the new unit. It would be his decision to accommodate your request or not.

I have the exact same problem on the passenger side mirror only. I guess I'll be letting the dealer know.

Same issue here on the driver's side. I only notice it when the mirrors are folded and I'm sitting in the car. What's the downside of letting it go? I'd rather not have them replace the whole mirror assembly.

Can you guys post some photos of the tear?

How often do you guys fold your mirrors? Are they set to auto fold when locking? Please keep us posted on the possible solutions, thanks!

I have the same problem on the drivers side. The gasket actually started to tear and the only solution was to replace the entire mirror rather than just the gasket. Unfortunately, from what I was told, is the mirror comes unpainted and the dealer would have to paint it and then reassemble the unit. The downside with that is the painted mirror could be different in sheen, color than the original car due to normal wear/tear/fading of the car. I opted not to get it replaced, but I hope it doesn't get worse. If so then I will have to get it replaced.

I am concerned that water or moisture will leak into the power mirror folding unit and cause an electrical problem.

I brought my 2012 A7 to the dealer and they showed me why they had to replace the bottom half of the mirror to replace the rubber gasket. They did the repair and paint job matches the body of the car. The dealership service representative told me that the paint job was guaranteed for the entire time that I own the vehicle.

I just discovered to have the same problem on the passenger side. Mine is set to auto fold when locking the car.
