Default First Service Experience...

It was supposed to be a simple oil change, but I had a strange feeling that I should turn it into a regular 30.000km's service. The oil change was supposed to be done at 15k, but I went it today at 12.300km's.

The oil was horrible, it was extremely black and the oil filter was full of dust, particles, etc. When I saw the oil, I decided to check the air filter which was so dirty, that you could literally fill a pot with dust and hairs and tiny little rocks. I saw that and I thought that I should also check the cabin AC filter, which proved to be just a little cleaner than the engine air filter, but also required changing.

All these, changes, except the oil were supposed to take place at 30.000km's. It makes me wonder, what would have happened if I followed the book...I probably would have taken it in for severe damage to the engine.

The diesel fuel and particulate filters should be changed at 60.000km's. I think I should change them at the next servicing.

P.S. In EU, they use Castrol EDGE 5-W-30 or VW 507 00 engine oil and these cars eat about 7 litres of oil!

I'm sure both my oil and filter are filthy as well--I'm at 13.5K miles and my fuel economy has dropped significantly... Did you notice anything like that? I used to get ~495 on a full tank (per the on board), now I only get 420. Hopefully the 15K service restores my efficiency.

That oil probably has nothing to do with your loss of MPG. Your MPG is dropping lately probably because you are running the air conditioner so much in the summer. Oil is "black" even just a couple thousand miles after a change, the color alone isn't an indication that the oil has broken down. That said, Audi specs 15K between oil changes? That's crazy, 10K max, and especially in a DFI engine, that 15K interval is too high.

My MPG was and is getting better with each trip, so I guess the oil is not a very important factor when it comes to MPG.

Service intervals are way too high in here, for Audi. They tell you to change the oil and oil filter every 15k KM, and the other filters every 30k.

I decided to take it to a full service(Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter, Diesel Fuel Filter) every 10k.

Well, I also have a frayed hose on my supercharger--Which finally gets fixed tomorrow! The dealer is saying that's what triggered my check engine light... That could be the gas gremlin. We'll see if they have it right this time. And 15kms is about 10K miles, which is our (US) service interval as well.
