Good to know that this is a known, fairly widespread issue. However I’m seeing two different explanations here - a Google update or an Audi update. Can anyone say definitively (i.e., confirmation from the source) which one it is? And has anyone heard an ETA on when service might be restored?

I've been researching this a bit and it appears that the original indications that the loss of the Google Earth overlay is due to a system update on either Google's or Audi's part were not entirely accurate. AOA customer service agents are telling some owners that there's a straight-up outage, and their website is displaying this message:
"If you are experiencing a lost connection with the Google Earth overlay in your vehicle, please know that we are working to restore these services as soon as possible. We will update this message once more information becomes available."
Understandably, they're not quoting an ETA on when the service will be restored, but given that we're coming up on a week since some people first reported the issue, I'm not holding my breath. I suppose this qualifies as a perfect example of a first world problem, and I'm glad to see that nobody seems to be getting too bent out of shape about it. I have to admit, though, that there's a part of me that would love to be a fly on the wall in the office of the team at Audi that's working this issue. I imagine that they're not having a particularly fun week.

Just chatted with AOA customer support. They're understandably thin on details, but they did offer one interesting bit of explanation. The agent described the problem as, "Google Earth is transitioning software versions that the hardware in the vehicle is not equipped to handle." Which, unfortunately, doesn't sound like something that's likely to be resolved anytime soon. (If at all?) Sigh...
