Default HUD Issue - Help

My car was hit and in a body shop for a month. I got it back and the HUD works but the image is messed up. Upon further inspection, I noticed the HUD to have a film or the look of shuttered glass. Has anyone had this issue, any idea what may have caused it and what the solution is? Attaching a picture of the HUD.

Thank you.

Looks like it may have shattered during the accident or while in the body shop. Mine is clear and looks like a mirror

Sorry to hear about your accident. I bought a 2012 A7 last November with the HUD and I am having the same issue. I thought that it was due to the fact that my car came with a tint but here in NC you can not tint the windshield. Apparently you can remove the HUD assembly and get the glass and mirror refinished. I am attaching a link from a guy in the UK who had the same issue. Will tackle the problem later on this spring. HUD Repair Best of luck.

Regarding the hud, you are correct regarding the protective film. This might get to hot if in the sunlight to long, or unfocused if to much dirt is on the top of the plastic film.
You can take out the top cover to check if its dirty/broken.
use a plastic pryer to remove the top cover. It is held in place by clips, so a bit of (brute) force is needed.
if something is broken, the windshield have to come out. Replacement parts are availeble from your dealer
