Looking for advice.
luck in your hunt.
Not many things you need to worry about with the C7 here is the list that I've seen as the most common (in sequential order from more common to less common but still a shared problem):
- Water Pump seal leak (results in coolant loss over time)
- PCV valve leak (results in coolant loss over time)
- Hydraulic Engine Mount failure
- Rock damage to intercooler if not already addressed
- The aluminum gets thin and brittle as it ages and if a rock hits it on the highway you will lose your coolant and need a tow. It's a $1,000 dollar job, Audi addressed the issue by supplying a rubber guard on the replacement part, however, there are tons of DIY solutions to this, just search around
- Torn/worn out upper and lower control arm bushings
- Gas Door actuator failure (OEM part number 4L0862153D, I think I found it on amazon for like 27 bucks, install was cake as there is a follow along Youtube DIY)
- Ripped CV joint boots, this can be a big $$$ item as replacing just the outer BOOT on the rear right CV requires the removal of the rear diff. (You can check for tears at a pre-purchase inspection when the vehicle is on the lift)
- Past Service history (You really need to stick to a 5k mile oil change interval, and at about 100k you should drain and fill the ZF 8 speed transmission with Motul ATF VI 105774)
- If the brake rotors have a lip on them you will need to plan on buying new rotors and pads, the aftermarket can take care of you here.
As for the interior, there isn't much to worry about, just take care of it. The B&O stereo (and I think even the bose system) tends to suffer from a rattle in the center speaker. Just remove it, the system functions just fine without it.
These are what I've had to deal with on my C7 A7 with 117,000 miles on it and an APR 1 tune:
- Intercooler replacement (with stock, rock killed the old one) $800
- ZF 8 Speed Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill $90 (DIY)
- Replace rear outer passenger side CV boot $700
- Gas Door Actuator $30 DIY
- Center speaker removal $0 DIY
- Spark Plugs $70 DIY
- Air Filter $40 DIY
- Brake Fluid Flush $20 DIY
- Rear Brake Pad Replacement $70 DIY
- Broken Windshield (HUD equipped, $1200 $250 deductible)
- Replace front brake rotors and pads $300 DIY
- Replace Front Upper and Lower control arm bushings $1000 each side
- Drain and Fill Front, Center and Rear Differentials $100 DIY
- Replace Cabin Air Filter $100 DIY
- I might have a front wheel bearing that is going out now too.
The A7 prestige is still my favorite car out of the 15 others I've owned in my 32 years alive.
