Ordered black with nugout brown, prestige, innovation, & cold weather package today! They tell me 8-10 weeks, does that sound about right these days? I'm a little concerned about WHICH black. I've ordered the brilliant black (no extra charge), will I regret vs. The metallic or pearl? I honestly couldn't see a big difference but it's a very cloudy day here. Be honest, it's not too late to change. Nervous & excited for the latest toy!
By the way, I was told today, the Audi rep has just told them the module for the rear cameras are starting to come in & will be delivered to those who already have the car first.

If you have a chance I would go for metallic or pearlescent black. I believe Havanna black is metallic where as the Phantom black on my car if pearlescent. Havanna has small brown flecks in the paint which can make it look a dark brown in certain light conditions, but you have to be up close to notice this. The great thing about metallic or pearl is that it applies a clearcoat finish over the black paint which will ultimately preserve the condition of the paint, if looked after correctly. In addition if I was buying a car like this second hand I would want metallic or pearl over a flat paint such as brilliant black. Still, each to their own I guess and I am sure others on here will give their own thoughts on this, good luck with your decision

Have had all 3 blacks---Brilliant Black on an '06 A8L, Phantom Black pearl effect on an '08 A8L, and now have Havanna Black metallic on my '11 A8L. All Audi paints are clearcoat finish, and IMO Brilliant Black is the shiniest and by far deepest black, but a real pain to keep clean, and it does show scratches and swirl marks very easily. Phantom Black takes on a grayish-black cast under cloudy conditions; has a definite blueish hue in direct sunlight; hides dirt and swirl marks much better than Brilliant Black. Havanna Black has lots of brown metallic flecks, and looks decidedly more brown in direct sunlight, and as you noted, especially the closer you get; looks more black in darker lighting like under cloudy conditions and in shadows, at dusk and of course at night; under florescent garage lighting it appears more grayish-brown. I will say that body angles do play a part in how these colors look---and to my eye Havanna looks a bit more black on the A7 vs. the A8.
IMO, Phantom Black actually works as the best all-around black in terms of look and upkeep. At the moment, I don't have pics handy of my prior A8s in Brilliant Black and Phantom Black, but here are some looks at Havanna Black in mixed and direct sunlight and at dusk.
I appreciate the comments very much. Based on comments here, I will call dealer back tomorrow & change to phantom black. Funny thing is when I started negotiations I requested phantom black. Somehow in the final negotiations it was changed to brilliant black. I suppose it was their way to help lower the price & frankly I didn't know better. I guess I'll be opening negotiations up again.
So, still 4 months...sigh. They seemed very confident stating 8-10 weeks & even showed past orders in that time frame.
Why don't you try to find one in stock? You can always negotiate with a dealer who has one in stock. I ordered mine around the first of August and it's due into the dealer around the third week of November. There are certain options including certain types of wood that slowed up production. Good luck!
I tried & tried that. Prestige with innovation package is typically bundled with sports suspension which I did not want. We searched again today & could not find one. So order was placed. I too heard from another dealer, wood trim is delaying builds.
I agree with derfA8L... I've had brilliant black ('05 A6) and now on my A7 phantom black. Also had Daytona gray on my 08 A6. Brilliant Black is great, but nearly impossible to keep clean. Daytona gray was great and easy to keep clean, but always lacked that POP! that you get from black.
I love the phantom black. Its a middle ground between the 2 colors.
I want to thank you guys for your comments on the different blacks. Based on those comments, I talked to my dealer this AM & they agreed to change it to the Phantom Black @ no additional cost to me...now I wait

I think you made a very wise choice. Now you have to suffer through the wait! ;^)
