S-tronic torque limits
Other people said maybe Audi decided to get the tip because of the not as smooth shifting and the S8 prospective buyers still focus on comfort.
The news the new RS6 with the 4.0T engine tuned at even higher numbers of the S8, the RS6 has 552hp and 516ft-lbs vs 520hp and 481ft-lbs (and we are talking underrated Audi official numbers but at least they are consistent along the whole line of engines)
And that Audi decided to put the 8 speed tiptronic Seems to confirm the torque limits of the 7speed s-tronic.
BUT I read the Panamera turbo S has a 7speed dual clutch tranny (PDK) with 542hp and 590ft-lbs so it is possible to have a high torque capable dual clutch tranny, it seems weird Porsche is doing it and Audi isnt, being both "cousins" and they like to share technology.
I guess Audi likes to be on the safe side because APR has tested the dual clutch tranny and they are not concerned about the torque limits (they are developing a tune for the S7)
Whatever is the case we know now what the numbers for the RS7 will be and it is a monster.
