Default Slow Boot Up

Okay, I'm used to my Windows computer taking forever and a day to boot up -- but my car?

Is it just my A7 or does everyone notice it takes an inordinate amount of time before the radio presets, voice command, etc. comes on after you start the car.

I've never had a car where this wasn't almost immediately available.

It's really frustrating when you go "Navigate to" and it comes back with "address book entry doesn't support this (or whatever it exactly says) instead of saying "hey, hold on ol chap, I haven't loaded the address book yet"

I changed my computer to an SSD (Solid State Drive) and only takes less then 30 seconds to full boot up.

I wonder if something similar can be done on the Audi to replace the slow standard 40gb hard drive that the MMI uses.

You would need a MIL spec SSD for it to work in a car. At least 186F heat and about -35F cold. It's something I looked into already

I'm in California so I never think about things like that. A standard ssd would work for me 32F ~ 158F.

From a quick search there seems to be some kinda special encoding or lock on the hard drive.

I did something similar on my EVO X before but the process was complicated and specific to that car.

Default Everyone has this issue with A7

The boot up time for the A7 electronics can take up to two and a half minutes. My brother has a 2012, I have a 2013. When I test drove his, I saw the issue. When I got my A7, for the first few months it was fine. Then the delays happened. My commute to work is about 3 minutes. By the time I get to my street, that is when the music starts playing and the phone connects. Sometimes, the screen doesn't pop up for a full 60 seconds. When the car is "hot", meaning I've driven it in the past 30 minutes or so, the electronics start up - slower than most vehicles, but typically the phone and music will start to work within the first 20 seconds of starting the A7. I raised this at the dealership, they are unaware of any issue. I would say the issue was bluetooth - but the USB connected audio is subject to the same issue. There is a problem in the software for sure. Starting up an A7 that has been used for a while is ridiculous. All my other cars don't take more than 20 seconds to connect to the phone or ipod. The A7 is slow on this regard. Everything else is awesome. I would imagine these electronics and this issue are apparent in other Audi models with the same electronics.

Wow, this is bad. How about the backup camera, do you have to sit in the car for 2 minutes before you can back out of your driveway using the backup camera?

My backup camera takes under 5 seconds to display when in reverse.

I assume everyone having these extra slow start times has rebooted the MMI, yes? (press Menu+Center ****+Upper right function button at the same time - the screen will retract, reopen and the system restarts). If my MMI starts acting funky, I reboot and it's back to normal.

My screen has always come up immediately when pressing the start button and usually takes less than 15 seconds for the Nav to initialize. Almost the same with my iPhone directory with 1100+ entries or my SD card song directory. The only thing that always takes longer is for T-Mobile to connect and be ready for online destination entry - around 1-2 minutes at times if I have a decent signal strength.

Once the system has booted up and connected the backup camera works. Otherwise, forget about the backup camera when you do a cold start - heck the screen usually hasn't popped up by the time I'm out of the driveway. My girlfriend just backs that car in now. Like I said, everything just got progressively slower over time. I'm going to try that reboot trick above!

I've always felt it's a good idea to let the car idle for 30 seconds or so when cold before moving to ensure the oil has circulated throughout the engine. More than enough time for the reverse camera to initialize.

I get in my car, I turn it on, I go.

I also don't put premium gas in any of my cars. Porsche, BMW 6 and 7, Jag XKR, Acura, Seadoo's and now my Audi. Never had a problem. What a waste of money.
