Video In Motion Question
There appears to be two ways to enable video in motion(?)
1) Software VAG mod
2) Hardware
Software is basically free but every time you take into the dealer you're risking dealer changing it again. More of annoyance, especially if you don't have the cable / software to get into the system to change yourself.
Hardware is a few hundred and seems like it tricks the system so no matter what the setting in the software or any changes dealer makes you always have video. Of course Audi could always change software to look for and ignore the hardware but Audi isn't Apple so this seems unlikely.
Is above correct? Any input?

It's NOT moving video I want to display, it's STATIC info which is connected via the video input, instead of bluetooth or 30 pin cable.
I want to enable video in motion so that my iPhone 5 connected via HDMI (via adapters) doesn't blank out during driving. It displays my music's track, title, artist, album art in a much nicer way than stock MMI.

It's not uncommon for new owners to want to watch a movie on their nav while driving, despite the safeguards built into the system...hacking will often do it, but also voids the warranty. That is what is so puzzling about doing something like that - putting other people at risk for one's self gratification.
Now that you made clear your intent, hopefully you can accomplish your goal and have your music display customized...cool.

), while you have a good point, most states have decided, rightfully so or not, that having a movie or TV show visible to the driver while the car is moving, is more distracting than the intermittent viewing of a nav screen. This is evidenced by the laws already in place: 37 states (and D.C.) and all but one province in Canada have, so far, made it illegal while allowing nav screens.http://drivinglaws.aaa.com/laws/telematics/
Along these lines, I've found since getting my C7 that I am potentially more distracted while driving by all the electronic gizmos than any car I've owned in the past. Fiddling with settings and playing with the increased nav and entertainment options now available can take my eyes off the road much more frequently and I have to be more careful. My wife has "kindly" pointed this out to me several times. Voice control in the C7 is helpful, but not always accurate and certainly not complete. And there is that MMI screen to look at.
I wouldn't be surprised if in the future, new laws will require total hands-free, voice operation of all settings, choices and feedback while driving, eliminating all screen visuals on new cars. I won't like giving up my nav map or browsing my media among other things but it will likely come sooner or later when the lawmakers get their way. (Tesla's Musk will go ballistic).
