What a difference...
I took my car in this week for the 25K service and some new tires. For those following my previous posts, I bought the car used and it had Nitto tires on it. They were cupping and generally contributing to excessive road noise and other alignment issues. In addition to that, I was growing convinced my wheels were bent (even after numerous balancings) due to the winding vibration noise at higher speeds.
After some research, I replaced the Nittos with Continental Extreme Contact DWS (265/35/ZR20) and the difference is incredible. They were able to true up my alignment (recall I am on H&R springs) and struggled after two alignments to get the specs anywhere close to factory specs. The resulting specs with the new tires are exactly where they should be. Road noise, gone. Vibration, gone. Drives straight and true.
So...the message of my story ---- especially for those of you running on after market springs...be willing to spend a little more to get a quality product. The Conti's are not the most expensive tire out there. They get good ratings and are a clear improvement over the Nittos.
My recent 2013 A7 with Stasis Touring has Dunlop rubber on it so I will see how that goes as I have no experience with Dunlop tires.
