Default Window tinting and heads up display.

Does window tinting interfere with the heads up display? Anyone have this combination?

Are you considering getting the front windshield tinted? I have heard of that but I thought it was illegal just about everywhere. I have the sides and back tinted and of course the HUD works fine, provided you don't wear polarized sunglasses.

I also heard somewhere that the windscreen has a reflective coating on the inside to allow the HUD to work more effectively. I think it is the reflective coating that somehow reacts with a polarized set of sun glasses and hence reduces the 'brightness' of the HUD. So you would effectively be placing the tint over the reflective coating as well. From a pure safety point of view I wouldn't tint the windscreen, especially from a night driving point of view.

Agreed. In fact the manual states it is special manufactured windshield (paraphrasing).

It is. In all normal windshields there are two layers of glass with a layer of plastic inbetween. This plastic layer is the same thickness top to bottom. The special windshields for HUD use have this plastic layer formed differently, it is thicker on the bottom and thinner on top, therefor the two layers of glass are not parallel to each other. This eliminates the double image glare that would appear on a regular windshield.
