Google Maps- Satellite View
I have a 2022 A7 Prestige that I have purchased in mid June. My free Audi Connect trial is up in December and I wasn’t going to renew since the only feature that’s appealing/useful is Google Maps satellite view in the Virtual Cockpit. I’ve recently noticed that when selecting Google Maps in Apple CarPlay there’s an option for satellite view that looks exactly the same in the Entertainment MMI screen as the view I get in the Virtual Cockpit. I’m hoping this capability isn’t linked to my Audi Connect subscription and it will still be available when my Connect subscription expires.
FYI for those that aren’t aware and if you have any experience with this without an Audi Connect subscription let me know.

The two are not connected. CarPlay is entirely handled by your phone and whatever app you are running. What you see on the display is projected by your phone and it uses the phone's data connection. The MMI doesn't use Google Maps. The maps are HERE Maps and the satellite images come from Maxar. The satellite images for the MMI used to come from Google Earth, but that's no longer the case and the MMI never used Google Maps.

A comment related to this topic. It’s apparent that there’s a lot of uncertainty on Audi topics by owners.
I love Audis and have owned 3 to date. The design, technology, performance, fit/finish and comfort are all great. But the documentation available online is HORRIBLE. For example, the process for map updates changed last year and there was very minimal information available online and none very helpful. Also, there’s virtually nothing available about the MMI or Apple Carplay/Android Auto available. With all Audi invests in their cars and technology I’m surprised they don’t have a more informative and robust online presence.
Also, a few times I have called Audi USA directly about issues and the individuals I speak to often know less than I do
AudiWorld is a fabulous resource for sharing and reaching out and a lot of the discourse is needed because Audi documentation support is scarce or non-existent.
