2000 A8 Interference Engine?
Is a non-inteference engine one that doesn't let valves hit the piston if something like a timing belt breaks? Is the 2000 A8 a non-interference engine?
AKB's reference to TB "setup" is very correct, it is a weakest link sort of deal with the water pump and gas tensioner being notable issues. Most failed TBs do not break: they strip cogs at the crank gear or loose tension and jump cogs or detrack.
Odd things happen. I had a small piece of bluechip stone lodge under a metal TB cover, it ground a groove in the middle of the belt virtually converting the belt into two little belts. I happened to notice the rubber dust and smell and caught it.
Bruce Mendel was able to get me a 3 year/36k warranty that pretty much covers everything (for a very reasonable price) with the only requirement being that I meet all scheduled maintenance or install a nitrous oxide booster :-).
