2000 A8 remote key synchronization
When I had the key apart I cleaned the contacts with alcohol, etc. and electronics looked OK.
Anyone have a solution? Feedback appreciated.
1. Take an extra key (not the one being programmed) and turn the ignition to "ON".
2. Get out, close the driver's door, and lock the car MANUALLY using the key you are programming
3. You said it is your backup key, so you should probably press the "LOCK" button twice. Your primary key is most likely in position one. You can assign up to four keys per vehicle. This is why the explanation in the manual is somewhat confusing.
4. After you press the "LOCK" button twice (or whatever it should be - 1 to 4 times), wait five or six seconds, then press the "UNLOCK" button to confirm the program was successful. If it was, the driver door should unlock.
Voila.
The system for the Q45 spec'd out at 450bhp and I had enough trouble with the law even without that.
